Things That Amuse Me -- Like blackjack & People
Part One -- Stupid People at the Casino
Do you want to win at blackjack? Are you currently winning blackjack in a casino? We’ll talk about that soon, but first let’s talk about stupid people. I have a few basic questions:
Maybe these questions do not even need to be answered. Maybe we just need to stick to the task at hand in order to control what we can possibly control as individuals, and try to win at casino Blackjack.
We should start with developing good strategies to win at blackjack. Have you learned blackjack basic strategy yet? You don’t need to come up with a winning strategy on your own. Most of the work has already been done for you. Just pay attention, practice (at home for free), and then take your new skill with you and play smart casino blackjack!
Back to stupid people… you aren’t one of them or else you would have already stopped reading all of the great, and (hopefully) interesting information found on the Winning Blackjack website!
Here are some examples of what I think make people at least LOOK stupid:
Example 1: Maybe you are playing Blackjack in a casino and have a choice of playing multiple deck blackjack or single deck blackjack. You have heard (and it probably seems like common sense by now), that single deck blackjack is better for the blackjack player. Do you know why?
The logic is, of course, that when playing single deck blackjack in a casino it is much easier to keep track of the proportion of high cards versus low cards remaining in the deck. High cards favor the blackjack player – low cards favor the casino. It seems reasonable that if 4 aces have been dealt, there are no more aces left in the deck, so it is impossible to get dealt a Blackjack.
Here’s where the stupidity comes into play: the casinos do not offer “traditional” single deck blackjack anymore. It’s a trick! I’m talking about the blackjack bonus which has been 3 to 2 for many years. Do NOT play single deck blackjack with the 6 to 5 bonus, unless you REALLY want to play and there is no alternative. If you have a choice, play multiple deck blackjack with the 3 to 2 bonus.
I am sure that if you ask 10 people who have chosen to sit and play at a 6 to 5 single deck blackjack game rather than a 3 to 2 multiple deck blackjack game, you will find that most of them are convinced they are the smart ones (and not just because it is “single deck blackjack”). After all, 6 to 5 is HIGHER than 3 to 2. “It’s BETTER!!!” Don’t be stupid – get a calculator and do the math at home. OK, fine, I’ll do it for you….
Great -- so, learn blackjack basic strategy first! Then, work on your blackjack advanced strategy. How about a simple blackjack card counting method? It is not as complicated as you may think. Keep simple track of the proportion of high cards versus low cards remaining to be dealt from the blackjack shoe.
Pocket Guide to Winning Blackjack is simple and to the point -- blackjack money management, blackjack basic strategy, blackjack advanced strategy, and blackjack card counting -- everything you need to get you on your way to winning casino blackjack!
Example 2: Roulette (nothing to do with blackjack, but stupid people in general…)
Have you ever been to a casino that offers 2 kinds of Roulette (“European” and “American”)? I have – and they are both played, even though you have free choice. Briefly, the difference between the 2 games is that European Roulette has 36 numbers and a single “0”, and American Roulette has 36 numbers, a single “0” and a “00” (one extra space on the wheel).
As you can imagine, the extra space on the wheel greatly reduces the player’s overall odds of winning on any bet, even though the payoff for each type of bet is generally the same. This is the main reason why American Roulette is not very popular. However, when given the choice, people (“stupid people”) will still choose to play. Why??? Is it because of the name – “American” Roulette”? Is it because they think the extra space on the wheel is somehow better? After all, it is one MORE space – one more possibility, one more way to win, one more WHATEVER……stupid!

You absolutely must understand why blackjack card counting works, whether you apply card counting techniques or not! Once you are familiar with the basics of card counting, you may want to have a look at the Advanced Blackjack card counting chart.
Do you want to win at blackjack? Are you currently winning blackjack in a casino? We’ll talk about that soon, but first let’s talk about stupid people. I have a few basic questions:
- Why are people stupid?
- What makes people stupid?
- Are people really stupid, or are they just being fooled by brilliant marketers and casinos. Have they been psychologically tricked and trained into believing things have to be done a certain way (the casino’s way)?
- Where are the clocks in a casino? What’s with the crazy carpet designs? How come it’s easy to get in, but not so easy to leave? Why do we have to do it their way? Why are the rules of Blackjack changing?
Maybe these questions do not even need to be answered. Maybe we just need to stick to the task at hand in order to control what we can possibly control as individuals, and try to win at casino Blackjack.

Part Two – The Moving Staircase
“True story” -- I was on an escalator a few years back in a fairly busy government building. The unthinkable happened: POWER FAILURE!!! I was one of the lucky ones who managed to jump off just in time. 18 others weren't so lucky and were stranded on that thing for over 2 hours. Can you imagine?!? I'm just glad I have that non-moving staircase at home and therefore was well-prepared for this unfortunate incident. It actually wasn't bad for me at all - I just "stepped up"...
Here is my analogy of what it means to learn the game of casino Blackjack and basic strategy, as well as taking the time to develop and practice advanced Blackjack strategy, Blackjack money management and at least a simple Blackjack card counting method.
As you may have noticed, most of the Winning Casino Blackjack website and the contents of the book “Pocket Guide to Winning Blackjack”, are simply presented and to the point. There are good reasons for this:
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT BOTHERS ME MOST IN LIFE is when I get on an escalator, whether or not it is next to a staircase, and the person or people in front of me are standing still and won’t budge. At the end of the “ride”, they start moving their legs (I guess because there is no moving sidewalk and they eventually need to get somewhere).
I am talking about young, able-bodied, healthy and strong LAZY as anything people, the same people that won’t touch a door when entering a building that has 10 doors across. They could go into any of them, but insist on walking or running right up behind the person ahead of them so they can slip through the open door without touching it. These are lazy people. Lazy people who expect others to do things for them.
The same holds true in a casino gambling game like Blackjack. The tools and everything else you need to succeed and speed ahead of all the lazy and ignorant people are right there in front of you for the taking! Blackjack basic strategy, Blackjack money management, Blackjack probability, Blackjack card counting… THESE are your tools.
Use that MOVING STAIRCASE (A.K.A “escalator”) to your advantage. Move those legs as if it were a regular, stationary, non-moving staircase and speed right ahead of the rest of them. You are now using a tool to your advantage and increasing your efficiency.
The Winning Casino Blackjack website together with Pocket Guide to Winning Blackjack is your “moving staircase” for casino Blackjack. So, jump on and let’s take our knowledge and strategy and be prepared as best as possible when we play Blackjack.
“It’s a moving staircase, NOT A RIDE!” (J. Schaffel, quotable quote)

- I have very little patience and prefer to find the shortest reasonable path to the goal, whatever that goal is.
- If it generally takes 20% of your time and effort to produce 80% of the desired result, it doesn’t make sense to me to spend the remaining 80% of your time and effort to finish the remaining 20%. Live a little…
- Read number 2 again. It really does make sense if you think about it.

That’s it -- Stop Whining & Start Winning at Blackjack!
There is a fine line between whining and winning. What am I talking about? Winning at casino Blackjack, of course!
Is it possible to be a winner at Blackjack and still be a whiner? The answer is yes, but you’ll look like an idiot so don’t bother – save it for your alone time.
Whining doesn’t help…and here are some examples of what caused it so you can recognize your stupidity and plan to win at Blackjack next time you play Blackjack in a casino:
So, there you have it – another piece of knowledge to add to your Blackjack toolkit! Get informed, know what you are up against when you play Blackjack in a casino and then you’ll only have yourself to blame when things don’t go your way. Good luck :-)

- NOT following Blackjack basic strategy, and losing – don’t whine…
- NOT using proper Blackjack money management, and losing – don’t whine…
- Blaming other Blackjack players at your table, the Blackjack dealer or the casino for your losses – don’t whine…
- NOT understanding the rules of Blackjack, the table limits or casino Blackjack house rules – you get the idea…
- Your Blackjack strategy is based on luck or the gambler’s fallacy – “I’m due for a Blackjack”, “I’m due for a win”, “I’m due for…” – Guess what? You’re not due for anything except some basic Blackjack education and a little introduction into probability and the law of averages.
So, there you have it – another piece of knowledge to add to your Blackjack toolkit! Get informed, know what you are up against when you play Blackjack in a casino and then you’ll only have yourself to blame when things don’t go your way. Good luck :-)
